Q.  Did Sheriff William Snyder cheat the taxpayers of Martin County?

On January 8th, 2013, William Snyder began his tenure as Sheriff of Martin County, Florida.  In part, he had run for the office on his claim of "vigilance and support of business on the Treasure Coast."

Since he became Sheriff he has failed to support Martin County businesses that pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes by purchasing at least 10 automobiles from dealerships hundreds of miles from Martin County.  Those purchases were from ALAN JAY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP INC. in SEBRING, FL., GARBER CHEVROLET, in GREEN COVE SPRINGS, FL, and DUVAL FORD, in JACKSONVILLE, FL.  Even worse, it appears that he paid Martin County Sheriff's Office employees for the numerous hours it took for them to drive the round trips to the out of county dealerships.  Not to mention the personnel required to transfer the drivers to those remote locations.

A review of the costs of purchasing those vehicles show that Martin County Auto Dealerships would have made the same or very comparable deals.

So exactly what was Sheriff Snyder doing?  Was he paying off favors to those out of county dealers?  Did he receive secret kickbacks?  Or bribes?  Why would he take money that should have been spent in Martin County, that would benefit all Martin County taxpayers, and spend it somewhere else?  Why don't you ask him?
